Liberating Timeless Bodies is a sound and movement workshop for all ages led by Alyssa “Lyzah” Favero and Kim “Kimmortal” Villagante. Together, these two Filipinx artists invite the community to take and make space for vocal and kinetic expression, facilitated by the artists’ complementary practices of song and wh/aacking.

Kimmortal’s sound practice blends genres as they sing and rap over pop-layered hip hop beats. Lyzah’s dance practice is rooted in both the contemporary and street/club world, with dedicated engagement in wh/aacking. A dance style born in the 1970s gay underground club scene of LA, a place frequented by Black, Latinx and Asian folk.

The two-hour workshop will be split into two parts. In the first half of the workshop, participants will be led through grounding practices, basics of wh/aacking and vocalizing/song, followed by the second half where participants are invited to share their own stories of the present, past and future. Finally culminating with a moment of witnessing and being witnessed.

Liberating Timeless Bodies invites all participants to make space not only for the ‘liberation of self,’ but also to honour generations who came before us and those who will come after.
