Floorworkshops provide a space for us to use principles of momentum and counter-direction to safely and efficiently pour weight into the floor. This class combines elements from contemporary and modern dance forms, breakdance/breaking, and various somatic practices like Alexander Technique and yoga to introduce and build upon floorwork fundamentals. We’ll research how to fold and position our bodies to roll, slide, spill and sweep through space. We’ll use developmental movement pathways to become more comfortable with gravity. We will do a lot of falling (that’s a promise), and we’ll embrace the bumps and clunks that occur along the way.
